Developing user interfaces for a real-time concatenative synthesis performance and composition system.
The Ecstacy of Communication ( Master's thesis at UCLA )
Created a population of autonomous, sound-making devices interacting with each other and with the sounds in their environment. Programmed all devices in C, using Atmel AVR microprocessors. Designed all circuitry. Used the Processing environment to create simulations of the network to aid development.
Red
Created a camera-driven audio controller, which analyzes the shape of its user's mouth, thereby controlling a synthesizer.
Sunset Soundscape
Sampled location sounds at regular intervals along Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Created a MAX patch and a knob controller that allows a user to virtually dial-in a point along the street and listen to audio from this position.
Continuous Instruments
Designed and built a population of small machines that rely on the substrate on which they are placed for sound making. These machines occupy a building and use the materials of the building itself to create music.
Drawing
Developed software in Processing that reads waveform data from scanned images, allowing one to draw sound at the waveform level in real space.
Genetik
Created a Flash-based genetic music creation system coupled with a database, allowing for the progressive breeding of music.
Buzzpass
Created a Reaktor patch in which a band-pass filter is fed into a delay unit in which the delay time is a multiple of the filter frequency.
